Just before Christmas I did some editorial work for menswear label Orlebar Brown.
I first fell in love with this brand at the first ever London Collections: Men in June last year. Their casual but smart resort wear is classic, but always with interesting details that make their pieces stand out for being unique, not for being loud and garish. The quality is exceptional and, in my opinion, it’s what every man is looking for in a fashion label: wearable, functional and looks good with minimal effort.
The original premise of the brand was to create swimming shorts that look good. You won’t find any elasticated waistbands at OB; these are properly fitted shorts that you can take straight from the pool to the bar without cowering in shame next to the glamorous ladies who always look great in their swimwear. Nowadays the label also incorporates t-shirts, polo shirts, sweaters, trousers, jackets and accessories.
Adam Brown, founder and head designer, was a photographer before setting up the label five years ago and they’ve also produced some great shorts with photographic prints of beaches, sunshine and lying poolside, things that capture the OB way of life.
This season they’ve also introduced their pack away gym shorts to conveniently pop in your bag any time. To promote this, I researched some cool folding gadgets, which you can find posted here on the OB Approved blog.
Orlebar Brown is stocked in Harrods, Liberty, Matches, Selfridges, Start boutique and Bentails in London and various other destinations around the UK and the world. Shop online or find out more at www.orlebarbrown.co.uk.
