A big thank you to the lovely ladies at Amaka Design House who invited me to the launch of their pop-up store at Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush.
The stylish store is full of beautiful womenswear, menswear and accessories from bright young names in the fashion industry and is open now (just in time for Christmas) for the next three months.
With ultra-cool artwork on the walls, which is also for sale, this is a refreshingly hip and trendy spot on the first floor of the shopping centre’s designer quarter ‘The Village’. The space is uncluttered and the designer’s clothing is nicely mixed in together to allow you to really focus on finding a great product rather than solely being about discovering new designer names but of course I was eager to find some exciting new labels.
The first thing that really caught my eye were Una Burke‘s incredible leather bags, belts and cuffs with armour-like studding (pictured above on the bottom left). Una explained to me that she creates pieces which contrast the softness of leather and swirling patterns with the tough metal embellishments as a reflection of both the tough and delicate nature of women. I expect we’ll be hearing exciting things from Una very soon!
It was great to see a few familiar names of designers I’ve written about before stocked in there. I’ve always admired Isabel Wong (pictured below on the top left) for being a really feminine and more affordable label and Velsvoir‘s (above on the top right) funky bow ties are a hit with the guys and the girls. Fashion week favourites Christopher Raeburn, Jean Pierre Braganza and Huishan Zhang are also among the labels to lure you in.
Another great label that I discovered that will be ideal for Christmas presents is Charlotte Hudders, her tropically coloured silk scarves and bow ties will certainly brighten up a winter outfit.
There are weekly events planned and ‘meet the designer’ days so I’d strongly recommend planning your trip around one of these to get the most of your shopping experience. Follow Amaka Design House on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
